A bike ride on a modified version of the Bataan Memorial Death March route.
The Tumbleweed Bike Ride is an approximately 26 mile bike ride that is on a mixture of road and gravel. The ride is on a modified Bataan Memorial Death March route. It is not a race. The ride will start and finish at the Outdoor Recreation facility on White Sands Missile Range. There is a gas facility on Post, however, there is no diesel.
Participants will receive a shirt, lunch, and refreshments.
Registration ends Feb 25, 2018 at 7:00pm mountain time. If riders are not Department of Defense affiliated, there will be additional information required. Required information is: Social Security Number, place of birth, and driver's license state and number. FMWR will follow up with a phone call to request this additional information. If required information is not provided by 12:00pm mountain time on Feb 28, 2018 you will not be able to ride.
CHECK IN
Check in: 7:30am. The ride will start at 8:00am. Ride takes place on White Sands Missile Range. To be granted access to WSMR, you must have your current driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Vehicles are subject to search. Please arrive with enough time to get through the gate before check in.
Directions: 1338 Ripley. Take a right on Aberdeen, then at the stop sign take a left on Goddard. At the next stop sign take a left on Ripley and continue straight.
SAFETY INFORMATION
Helmets must be warn. Also, Army regulations prohibit the wearing of headphones while bicycling on a military installation. Upon check in, riders will be required to read and sign an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) hazards orientation letter. It is in addition to the waiver.
PHOTOGRAPHY IS PROHIBITED
No photography is allowed on White Sands Missile Range.
